Resort 2011: Trends from the Runway

Resort collections don’t usually get as much shine as your standard fall and spring collections, but this season, the fly new trends in Resort 2011 were too hard to resist.
Take a few style notes of what we thought were the most trend-worthy!

The jumbo pockets in the rag & bone and Marc by Marc Jacob’s collections are both stylish and practical. There’s no need for a handbag with this much space built into a sweater.

Oscar de la Renta’s straw hats bring a bit of glitz and glamour to a summer staple. Jason Wu debuted a similar style. Perfect for a weekend in the Hamptons.

Alice in Wonderland isn’t the only girl who can rock a puffy sleeve. These poet sleeves by Yves Saint Laurent bring a girlish vibe to a classic silouhette.

Project Runway: Catty Episode 4

Hellllllllo claws! The claws have finally come out and the designers are getting catty with one another, though none have called each other a ‘hot mess’ yet — I miss Christian so much — it did get heated last night. That said, the actual designs, left me bored.
The ‘what were you thinking’ award of the night went to Ra’mon with a blue dress complete with an oversized chest bow. While Qristyl, was kicked off the island for her sloppy work.
Althea’s three-piece look — a shiny blazer, belted mini bubble skirt and tank — won. Although honorable mention should go to Louise, for a tasteful and well constructed black dress with ruffle collar.
Overall, a yawn… leaving the biggest q of the night (and season): What’s up with the scattered judges panel? Nina, Michael care to explain?
Until next week,

Isaac Mizrahi To Open Up Flagship Store

isaac_mizrahi_blueflys_blog_flypaper1.jpgIn late August Isaac Mizrahi, a three time winner of the CFDA awards, will open a 1,500-square-foot store for his own brand here on East 67th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. The unit will be the designer’s first freestanding store in Manhattan, said Marisa Gardini, president and chief executive officer of Isaac Mizrahi, and will showcase his accessories, shoes and sportswear.
The store, which will be housed in a renovated brownstone, is now under construction. “We’re just deciding what things might be part of the store,” Gardini said.

What Would You Wear With This BCBG Blouse?

Michelle Obama recently wore a leaf-print tank blouse very similar to this BCBG blouse with a royal purple jacket and pinstripe trousers — a surprising choice since mixing stripes with florals can be as blasphemous as wearing white after Labor Day in some circles. Later in the day, she shed her blazer, but kept the top on to plant trees with the Student Conservation Association. I think the gamble paid off as she stylishly reinterpreted the woman’s work uniform for spring, playing off the mannish stripes with rich colors and bold prints. How would you wear a top like this?

>This BCBG blouse comes in yellow too!
>New Miu Miu shoes starting at 20% of retail!

Question: Are You a One-Piece or Bikini Girl?

Today’s one-pieces are not the random ruched and wrap styles our moms used to wear. From sharp cut-outs to chic boho prints they’re quickly separating the glamazons from the girls on the beach. But bikinis are keeping up. With jeweled and hardware detailing and on-trend pops of color, it really comes down to whether you’re a one-piece or bikini girl. Let us know!

Are You Shopping for Spring Yet?

We just got a yummy new shipment of Spring ’09 pieces by Nanette Lepore, BCBG, Diesel, Alice & Olivia and Joie and I was wondering…

Closet Voyeurism

We have a fun lil’ work diversion for those of you still in 4-day weekend mode. (Me. Sigh…) It’s the Confessions of a Shopaholic closet on Facebook. Basically, how it works is they give you fake money to spend. (Kinda like Bernie Madoff, except you know it’s fake.) Then you can spend it on all the Bluefly goodies you want (for yourself or as a gift for your friends). As a bonus, you can check out what your fellow shopaholics add to their closets AND buy the amazing bags, shoes, bling and more for real on Bluefly. Have fun… And while you’re there check out our Facebook page too.
