The Best Dressed…

fly_mighty_goldenglobes title

The 2014 Golden Globes brought together the biggest and brightest talents from of television and film, so we expected nothing short of starlets’ dazzling in some seriously amazing ensembles. From the awards show to the post-party, the evening was filled with old and new fashion icons that showed off the biggest fashion moments and trends of the season.

Starting with some of the night’s best dressed, the stunner from Wall Street, Margot Robbie, continued to turned heads by wearing a flattering Gucci gown embellished with vintage Van Cleef jewels. Mom-to-be Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde glowed on the red carpet, and proved that you can still look fabulous even with a bun in the oven! Amber Heard had the perfect mix of sexiness and elegance in a navy Versace gown, along with a perfectly messy up-do. Then last but not the least, there was the most inspirational woman of the night—Cate Blanchett, who donned a gorgeous, laced Armani Couture dress! Go Cate!

Celebs like Lupita Nyong’o, Hayden Panetierre, and Emma Roberts made strong statements with features that made their gowns the trendiest of the season. Some of the top trends were black and white, like Hayden’s Tom Ford masterpiece, vibrant reds, such as Lupita’s gown which made fashion headlines, and elegant mermaid gowns that added a touch of old world glam to the carpet.

Finally, it’s PARTY TIME! The award show dresses stunned us, but the best-dressed list didn’t stop there. From Taylor’s sexy see-through dress to Miranda’s daring gown, it was clear that the outfit changes meant that the stars were about to have actual fun. Which one of these dresses would you wear for a night to remember?

Taylor Swift’s Preppy Look

Let’s call it the Kennedy Effect. While Taylor Swift has always had a ladylike flair about her, dating presidentRobert F. Kennedy‘s grandson Conor has graduated her style to a land of preppy headscarves and polka dots. In fact, the singer was recently spotted in head-to-toe Ralph Lauren, including honest-to-goodnessLauren Ralph Lauren Stretch Twill Jodhpur Pants ($129). Jodhpur pants. Matched with burgundy Ralph Lauren Quintessa Velvet Loafers ($395) and Ray-Ban ‘Classic Wayfarer’ 50mm Sunglasses ($150), we’re guessing she must be off to a regatta or to stomp some divets.

You can get Swift’s exact prepped-out look now, and you don’t even have to buy a $5 million estate next to the Kennedy compound to do so.

Grammys 2012: Best Dressed Top 10

Tonight’s Best Dressed were not the usual suspects. With Beyonce on Mommy duty and Kanye West not in attendance, there was room for newcomers and unexpected divas to get the attention they deserve. But before I jump into the list, I have to single out some of the “whoa, huh, what?” moments.

As usual there was a lot going on in terms of fashion at the Grammys. Nicki Minaj hit the red carpet shrouded in a voluminous, hooded crimson get-up embroidered with what looked like the Versace crest. Her date? An impersonator of the Pope. Meanwhile, Fergie, who picked up a Grammy for co-writing Kanye and Rihanna’s hit “All of the Lights” showed up in black underwear covered by a completely see-through lace dress by Jean Paul Gaultier. I think nude underwear or even undies the same color of the lace would have been way more appropriate, or how about a slip? We did not need to know Fergie wears granny panties.

In terms of trends, three-quarter sleeves, and embroidery/embellishment were huge, gladiator-reference jewelry too with Alicia Keys and Gwyneth Paltrow rocking a heavy gold neck plate and belt, respectively. And now, without further adieu, here are my Top 10 Faves. As always, let me know who I left off the list.

Going into the telecast with six nominations, Adele is the bride of the night, and every bride looks gorgeous on her wedding day, no matter what she wears. From the thick tumble of curls framing her face to the slash of red lipstick to her glittering three-quarter-sleeved custom Giorgio Armani gown, she has never looked better. What’s even cooler about the look is that it remains true to her trademark penchant for retro black dresses. It would seem hard to keep such a classic look fresh, but she pulled it off.

Taylor Swift tops my list just for ditching her usual Shirley Temple ringlets and princess dress. With her hair swept up and away from her beautiful face, her high-collared embroidered Zuhair Murad gown looks even more stunning on her.

Perhaps she just doesn’t want to hear it from E! Fashion Police co-host Joan Rivers, but this Red Carpet season Kelly Osbourne is 3 for 3. From the sharp-shouldered Zac Posen stunner she wore to the Golden Globes to the elegant white Badgley Misckha gown she donned for the SAGs to tonight’s sparkling one-shoulder gown by Tony Ward, she keeps getting better and better.

This Basil Soda gown was made for Paris Hilton! The cap-sleeves show off her long, toned arms, and the elongated mermaid really silhouette flatters her shape. Who knew Paris Hilton had a little Sofia Vergara going on?

Corinne’s Christian Siriano dress perfectly evokes the spunk of the Grammy Awards.

Between her slicked back ponytail and the cut-out detail of her Stella McCartney gown, this is one of my fave looks on Gwyneth. Ever!

For tonight’s live telecast, Rihanna let go of the red and returned to blonde, channelling Michelle Pfeiffer’s Scarface character Elvira Hancock in this gown she co-designed with Giorgio Armani. “We’ve been working together a long time, he trusts me now [sic],” Rihanna told Ryan Seacrest on E!’s pre-show. The gold cuff and clutch perfectly accessorize the look.

This embroidered Elie Saab dress could have felt bridesmaid-y because of the bow and color, but with the blue updo, Katy Perry is rocking.

Between her embroidered silver mini with matching metal pumps, and her curly red bob which matches her manicure, Ambrosius looks more than ready for her close-up.

Wear A Toggle Coat Like Taylor Swift

If we could tap into childhood nostalgia everyday, we’d probably keep Polly Pocket in our Cambridge satchels and stream old school Nickelodeon shows onto our iPads. But for those that would rather exude a sense of playfulness through dress up, we suggest you sport a toggle coat a la Paddington Bear for the remainder of winter (six more weeks thanks to Phil the Groundhog). Shop our picks below and let the memories of this fuzzy children’s book character keep you toasty and forever young.

Travelling the World In Style: Cameron Diaz & Taylor Swift

Cameron Diaz is known for those long legs, and she showed them off to maximum effect in this very chic outfit. Between her legs and her haircut, doesn’t she look fantastic?

Cameron was spotted leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in Paris to attend the Versace fashion show. Fashion Week in Paris: not a bad way to enjoy some vacation time! Wonder if P. Diddy (who enjoys fashion himself) is with her in Paris?

Taylor Swift kept warm in this maroon duffle coat while out and about in London. Love the color of that coat (and the style) as well as those boots!

I wonder if she’s promoting her new album in the UK (and dishing some more on the “earth shattering, crash-and-burn heartbreak” that inspired her songwriting for it)? Well, her writing seems to work for her: Taylor looks like she’s feeling good these days.

Trend: Hello, Pleated Skirts

l to r: Taylor Swift, Leighton Meester, Kristin Cavallari

Britney Spears may have brought the school girl look back in the ’90s, but these ladies have updated the look with a sophistication worthy of the runway, street style, and fashion ogling. Pair with a classy white blouse a la Kristin Cavallari or keep it casual with a long sleeve T like Taylor Swift. Heels or flats, your choice.

Taylor Swifts Looks Vibrant in Red

Taylor Swift was spotted arriving at the Billboard Women in Music luncheon today looking radiant in her red belted dress and nude heels.

Taylor is being honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year, adding another accolade to her award winning 2011.

What do you think of Taylor’s darker hair here? I’m not sure I really love the colour, I think I like her better a bit blonder. I do love the style though!

Open Letter To Taylor Swift

Dear Taylor,

I’m SO bored. You heard me correctly and I’m standing my ground. After watching you sit through the American Music Awards this year, sweeping the nation with your trophy grabbing album ‘Speak Now’, I couldn’t help but wonder: haven’t I seen all of this before? You know what I’m talking about, honey pie. The side pony-tail? Check. The body-hugging, gold dress? Check. That “I’m genuinely shocked!” award acceptance? You owe me a Kit Kat Bar, because I’m in dire need of a break. You haven’t got me fooled with earnest “humble bee” act; you may have stung Kanye’s career, but I’m taking my chances. “I ended up writing the record by myself, so the fact that you would honor it this way, you have no idea what this means to me,” you say, with your convincing guffaw and smirky grin. I believe you, I believe you’re a hard worker and you’re still momma’s little angel. Why not bestow all of us a shake up with your image and play us a little harder? There was just something far too familiar in your this year, like we’ve seen in every public appearance you have had since your debut. I’m bored, your fans aren’t, but America may eventually get there.

With that, I give you your familiar looks that graced thousands of screens across America.

The proof is in the pudding, Tay Tay.

Much love,
