Proenza Schouler Spring 2010: Feeling It?

proenza_schouler_spring_2010_blueflys_blog_flypaper.jpgElectrifyingly wacked out party dresses ran the gamut from baby doll frocks trimmed in feathers, to Art Deco cinched waist tank dresses to button down, aqua toned high-necked mini dresses that looked perfectly water stained. Each naughty piece is provocatively perfect for throwing back expensive liquor while deliciously wiggling your hips to heavily rotated, brainless beats at the latest designer hotspot…….

Anna Sui Spring 2010: Feeling It?

anna_sui_blueflys_blog_fypaper_spring_2010_collection.jpgIf Marsha Brady had went off to design school in Europe and ended up being Supermodel Twiggy’s roommate, they would’ve been creating and subsequently rocking Anna Sui’s Spring 2010 uber Mod 60′s fashion inspired collection.
Sui’s very playful collection of skirt and blazers sets, cropped pants and thigh high dresses, skip playfully around the recession in earth toned florals, bodacious plaids, rainbow hued stripes and metallic tinted pleathers all tied together with a slightly “Psychedelic Barbie’ appeal……………

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2010: Feeling It?

phillip_lim-spring_2010_blueflys_blog_flypaper.jpgA pretty girl in pretty clothes that say: “Hey, I’m not a camera hog, but I’m not a wallflower either!”
Lim’s Spring 2010 collection was all about making a 3D mountain out of every little detail. Pleats, sequins, ruffled layers, geometric-shaped jacket flaps and oversized grommets, were layered, inserted, and juxtaposed onto wonderfully fashionable black sheer gypsy pants, floaty streamlined tulle skirts, and dresses, neon bright silk pantsuits, and earth toned satin skirts.
I’m utterly in!

Alexandre Herchcovitch Spring 2010: Feeling It?

Alexandre_Herchcovitch_Spring_2010_look_1_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper.jpgAlexandre_Herchcovitch_Spring_2010_look_2_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper.jpg
Alexandre Herchcovitch’s spring 2010 muse dresses for battle in tribal prints and linebacker silhouettes — with tube socks to match. Using rain and windbreaker fabrics, and a sort of rubberized material for many of the dresses, the idea was: you can look, but if you touch, the dirt will roll right off my (football padded) shoulder. Even when he used fluttering leaves of fabric, they overlaid nude perforated materials that were cut to resemble protective under gear, and when he mixed matte and shine fabrics they were on blacks and metals. A fitting near end to Spring 2010 New York Fashion Week which showed a consensus among designers about a redefined femininity that’s a tough and ready to scramble, as it is girly and romantic.

Betsey Johnson Spring 2010: Feeling It?

betsey_johnson_2010_blueflys_blog_flypaper.jpgBetsey’s Spring 2010 is quintessentially Betsey Johnson. The Drama and the Drag Queen are rolled into one big ‘ole ball of hot pink of tulle and taffeta next season with Betsey creating party-on-demand-pieces of mini corseted dresses, tripled layered and tripled colored tulle skirts, mile wide head bows and gallons of vamp make-up.
Though I’m personally over the ’80s, Betsey still does it best.

Baby Phat Spring 2010: Feeling It?

baby_phat_spring_2010_blueflys_blog-flypaper.jpgO-kay….whew. I’m just going to say it. Baby Phat’s Spring 2010 collection is awful. As in Forever 21–before-they-started-copying-all-the-really-hot-designers awful. I honestly think Kimmora had too much on her plate with her pregnancy, her TV show, her cross country move, her other business licensees and just being all things fabulous to produce a well planned, actually creative, fashionable Spring 2010 collection. The skimpy collection consisted of a hodgepodge of bargain basement looking tank, halter and button down dresses in both basic colors and bold 2004 style prints. Metallic leopard bikinis were paired (God only knows why) with faded denim jackets, while cargo pants were brought back on a skinny jean silhouette (this was as creative as it got).
Mini skirts and boy shorts tricked out in sequins, watercolor prints, bleached out denim and ethnic prints were the most fashion forward part of the collection.
Sorry, chica, let’s hope for a better Fall 2010 collection.
But don’t take my word for it…peep the collection here….

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010: Feeling It?

marc_by_marc_jacobs_spring_2010_blueflys_blog_flypaper.jpgThe first thought that popped into my head upon looking at this collection was that if Lucille Ball had worked in fashion she would be rocking this Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 collection all the time. In this collection Jacobs takes the heavy ’80s trend and spins it on its axis. True, bright poppy colors and prints are paired recklessly together–striped, polka dot and checkered tops were mixed with bubble skirts and cropped joggers made from Batik fabric, bright neon colored day dresses are accessorized with mix matching headbands, belts and bags — but his choice to use heavily ethnic prints, both muted and bold plaid ’90s style fabrics, toned down ‘Power Shoulders’ and shrunken tulle skirts–saved it from being a complete remake of the currently super popular fashion decade.
Very smart, Marc, very smart…

G-Star Raw Denim Spring 2010: Feeling It?

G-Star_Spring_2010_look_1_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper-crop.jpgJeans are no longer “basics”, and the embroidered, printed, treated styles collection stylist Remco de Nijs and women’s collection designer Rebekka Bach presented are a perfect case in point. For the men, the styles translated into suits, and the most ubiquitous silhouette of the collection — long fly, baggy seat, tapered bottom — while for the ladies, these denim treatments were represented in denim-embroidered trenchcoats (as pictured above), sharp belted coat dresses, body suits, worked-over vests, and lace-effect jackets. Softening the raw denim looks were printed silks (dresses for the ladies, shirts and ties for the guys). I’m not fully convinced of the stovepipe a.k.a. Hammer pant (or short!), but I am inspired by the infinite denim incarnations and the infinite ways to wear it. I won’t look at my skinny jeans the same way again.

Max Azria Spring 2010: Feeling It?

Max_Azria_Spring_2010_look_1_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper.jpgMax_Azria_Spring_2010_look_2_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper.jpgMax_Azria_Spring_2010_look_3_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper.jpg
Clean, sharp, and sexy Max and Lubov Azria’s spring 2010 line was an homage not to the ’80s, but the ’90s as jackets with strategically slashed sleeves, and dresses and jumpsuits with similar perforations conjured classic Calvin Klein minimalism and Tom Ford’s clean Gucci glitz. This made for lots of sexy peeks of flesh, and plenty of head-swiveling as those ubiquitous cut-outs, floating flaps of fabric on tops, and waterfall dress hems made for a second look. Mickey Rourke, Kelly Rowland, and Nastia Liukin were front row.

Vera Wang Spring 2010: Feeling It?

vera_wang_spring_2010_blueflys_Blog_flypaper.jpgThis super easy line of drapey dresses can pretty much do no wrong. Consisting of tones of black, white, slate gray, and flecks of purple, it has a slightly punk feel warmed over by a ‘Sunny Soho Day’. I love how she accessorizes with layers upon layers of beaded chunky necklaces, and draws attention to the delicacy of an ankle with the ‘Ballerina Wedges’.
