Tonight’s Golden Globes Red Carpet was one of the Best Dressed in recent memory mostly because there were few clones. Largely ditching the safety of princess silhouettes and one shoulder gowns, the stars came out in unique expressions of their personal style. Zooey Deschanel wore a bold custom Prada gown with an embellished spray of green and black on the blouse of her dress. Likewise Tilda Swinton opted for a periwinkle structured jacket with a soft maxi skirt spilling out from underneath it. Not everyone’s look was a hit–Glee star Dianna Agron’s red dress composed of laser cut swans was beautiful in detail, but A LOT for the eye to take in. And Tilda Swinton’s aforementioned look also gave the eye a lot to absorb, but then that’s the charm of Tilda–she doesn’t give a f@$K!
As individual as the looks were, there were some trends: scooped out backs (Julianna Margulies, Heidi Klum, Nicole Richie), sparkling headbands (Michelle Williams and Charlize Theron), statement clutches (see Angelina Jolie’s sanguine bag), and mermaid silhouettes (Sofia Vergara, Kelly Osbourne, and Reese Witherspoon. Windblown hair/bed head was big too with Stacy Keibler and Reese Witherspoon rocking sexily mussed-up coifs. All said, I’ve settled on my shortlist of the Best Dressed on the Red Carpet. Who am I missing? Who do you think was the flyest?
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron rocking a gown that’s cocktail party in the front-evening gala in the back
Charlize Theron may not have won for her role in Young Adult, but the Golden Globe nominee killed it on the carpet, summoning her dancer past in a swinging costume gown by Dior with a cocktail length hem in the front, and floating train in the back, complete with sparkling headband.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina’s contrast colored napkin neckline is heat!!
Angelina Jolie looked pretty fly & mighty in her champagne colored gown with Grecian detail and crimson contrast napkin bodice.
Rooney Mara
Golden Globe nominee Rooney Mara hit the red carpet in Nina Ricci
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo nominee continued her goth-chic streak on the Golden Globes red carpet in a Nina Ricci gown.
Julianna Margulies

The combination of long sleeves and a scooped out back is a winning one for Julianna Margulies.
Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne, in Zac Posen, did a spin on E!’s glam cam at the 2012 Golden Globes
As one of the first celebs to hit the red carpet, E!’s Fashion Police correspondent Kelly Osbourne set the tone of the night in a sleek, sharp-shouldered Zac Posen gown.

I take my Hollywood Foreign Press/Critics Choice Movie Awards back. The Descendants beat out The Help for the win. Curious to see who breaks the tie at the Oscars if both films are nominated.
10:49p
With the exception of Viola Davis, the Hollywood Foreign Press has pretty much voted like the titular critics at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. George Clooney won the Best Actor – Drama award; shared some choice words about fellow nominee Michael Fassbender’s frontal nudity in his acceptance speech. Seems Ricky Gervais’ filterless spew is catching.

Ricky Gervais has opened with a dig at the Golden Globes (it’s a second rate Oscars), Kim Kardashian (she’s a second rate Kate Middleton), and Eddie Murphy (he said yes to Norbit, but no to the Oscars).
7:59p
My tops on the carpet: Charlize Theron (Dior), Rooney Mara (Nina Ricci), Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek (Gucci), and Julianna Margulies. Oh, and Kate Beckinsale. Yours?
7:40p
I always count on Tilda Swinton to wear whatever the f@$K she wants at these things!
Oh, Tilda Swinton, I love you!
7:38p
Love the laser cut swan detail of Dianna Agron’s red gown, but this is another dress that probably looks better in person.
7:33p
The big trends: scooped out backs (Nicole Richie, Heidi Klum, Claire Danes), dark metallic blue (Kelly Osbourne, Sofia Vergara), canary yellow (Maria Menounos, Paula Patton), flesh tones (Charlize Theron, Julie Bowen), Rat Pack (Ricky Gervais, Jonah Hill), contrast color napkin bodices (Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman)
7:25p
Michelle Williams in velvet Jason Wu complete with headband. I think this is one of those dresses that looks better in person, but on screen, the flash bulbs just aren’t catching the Wu in the most flattering light. Thoughts?
7:20p
Charlize Theron is my favorite so far!! You?

Let’s talk about the dudes for a second. Ricky Gervais’ burgundy smoking jacket-esque suit with black shirt is in line with the Rat Pack look many of the men are conjuring. Thoughts??

So funny! You can always tell when E!’s hosts are not feeling the celebs’ looks when they ask, “how many dresses did you choose?” as Ryan asked Nicole Richie and Giuliana Rancic asked of Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier. What do you think of Nicole’s look?

It’s about to be on on the Golden Globes Red Carpet tonight as Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, and Jessica Chastain are set to hit the Red Carpet. The pre-show isn’t too shabby either. E!’s Kelly Osbourne is wearing the sickest (as in flyest) Zac Posen gown. Between the sharp Jetson shoulders, metallic blue hue, and mermaid shape, Kelly has never looked better! Loving her grey updo too. What do you think–should she have worn her hair up or down?

Even though I’ve done NYLON TV and other on-camera work, my new show Scouted is going to be eight episodes, on a nationally syndicated cable news network–there are going to be a lot of eyes on it! As a fashion consultant/stylist, a lot of my work is done primarily behind the scenes so this will definitely be an exercise in believing in myself and feeling confident!
Seeing myself on film versus a still photograph definitely has me inspecting myself a lot more. I’m used to looking at pictures of myself; I think we’re all used to seeing images of ourselves, but we don’t really see ourselves interacting. I saw a clip of myself recently in an E! News segment and, how do I look? I could take myself apart, but I look like me–I wanna get it through my head that that’s fine.
Besides, no one’s looking that closely anyway; no one sees the tiny things you see. We’re all our own worst critics.
With the show coming out, I’ve been watching a decent amount of television and I never look at anyone and think ‘Oh, look at the way her forehead wrinkles,’ or ‘Her nose looks fat at that angle.’ You just watch it for the bigger picture. It’s all been an exercise in not getting caught up in over-analyzing myself–and just enjoying this really exciting time in my career and life.
Whether or not you take The American Music Awards seriously, it’s a travesty if you don’t get a little pumped up for the red carpet looks. Never knowing what to expect, with presenters ranging from ABC’s Modern Family to Once Upon A Time standing alongside performers like Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and Jennifer Lopez, the looks were ranging from the sheer to the spectacular to the disastrous.
Here are a couple of my favorites from this years list of Hollywood’s creamery of the creme de la creme:
Jennifer Lopez‘s performance may have confused many but her looks were TOP NOTCH.
Once Upon A Time‘s Jennifer Morrison donning a whimsical look.
Audrina Patridge looking extra tan and extra saucy in a cut-out mini.
Selena Gomez continuing her ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ old Hollywood glamour.
Check out Jennifer Lopez’s medley of her 2011 hits from the American Music Awards below!
Last night, the Emmys were a complete snore from the opening musical skit to the interstitial performances by “The Emmytones” — Taraji P. Henson, The Soup’s/Community’s Joel McHale, and other actors delivering pithy lyrics as barbershop-cum-doo-wop group of sorts. Amy Poehler’s sprint to the stage to accept her nomination (followed by Mike and Molly star Melissa McCarthy’s presentation of a pageant tiara and bouquet when she won the category) was a highlight, as was Andy Samberg’s reprise of an SNL rap music video rap with hook sung by Michael Bolton dressed in a Pirates of the Caribbean get-up were highlights (the skit was funnier on SNL). By contrast, the Red Carpet was anything but sleepy.
Sequins of Events: Claire Danes and Julie Bowen were among the stars that hit the Emmys Red Carpet in graphic sequins gowns
Gwyneth Paltrow showed midriff in a black lace Pucci gown, Julianna Margulies rocked a controversial Armani Privee gown with glass balls (?) on the bodice that I happened to love, and several stars — Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen, Claire Danes, Christina Hendricks, new Charlie’s Angel Rachael Taylor — went for the glitz in head-to-sequins gowns. Red was also a huge trend with Giuliana Rancic reporting from the carpet in rouge Roberto Cavalli while Kate Winslet cut a sharp look in her red maxi-length sheath complete with plunging decolletage.
The VMAs are less about fashion than they are about the huh? moments you can’t stop talking about the next day. Last night’s show had more than a few, but they weren’t the obvious ones. It wasn’t necessarily about what happened on last night’s telecast, as what didn’t. For starters, before the show even began, the notoriously tight-lipped Beyonce opted not to keep silent about her personal life. Instead, she offered up the news of the night that she is pregnant, sparking the creation of three Twitter accounts in the unborn child’s honor — @beyjayfetus, @kingbeysbaby, and @babyofbeyonce. Later in the night, she performed her single “Love on Top” popping the button of her sequins Tom FordDolce & Gabbana blazer to rub her growing belly. The performance brought the usually stoic Jay-Z to his feet as Kanye West thumped the proud papa to be on the back. The show continued along this track.
Instead of a splashy opening act presided over by a host, there was no master or mistress of ceremonies to be had. Instead there was Lady Ga — er, Joe Calderone (Gaga’s alter ego) — performing a monologue in a plain white tee shirt, blazer, slacks, and flat shoes; a disappointment, I’m sure, to the thousands who made MTV’s #WhatWillGagaWear hashtag a trending topic on Twitter.
Britney Spears did not continue the MTV award show tradition of the girl on girl kiss she started with her three-way peck with Madonna and Christina Aguilera at the ’03 ceremony. “I’ve done that already,” she explained before accepting her Michael Jackson Award after a genius dance tribute that paid homage to the star’s iconic music video choreography over the years.
Assuming the mantle, Justin Bieber chose to do something Britney already did, toting a snake to the awards show. When girlfriend Selena Gomez, who co-hosted the black carpet pre-show wearing a gothic Julien MacDonald dress with a mullet hemline, asked Bieber the snake’s name, he answered “Johnson.” Of course.
Kanye West made no outbursts, leaving his exuberance for his high energy performance of “Otis” with Jay-Z and the aforementioned pat on Jay-Z’s back. In fact, he kept uncharacteristically mum, letting Katy Perry say it all in her acceptance speech for their award-winning song “ET”.
And then there was Nicki Minaj who arrived at the ceremony wearing a Mortal Kombat-inspired anime costume complete with a stylized surgical mask. But this photo shows it best; Beyonce’s baby bump stole the show. More…
