NYFW Spring 2013: Naeem Khan

Naeem Khan’s 2013 collections is the epitome of luxury. You will look like a million bucks in every single look.

The collection spawns elegant floral prints, bold colors and glorious gowns of elegance. I see many of them Oscar-dress worthy of our favorite starlets. Who do you want to rock these gowns?

Tony Awards Best Dressed – Our Top 5

Broadway stars were shining last night at the 66th annual Tony Awards in NYC.  Once and Clybourne Park took home the Tony’s for Best Musical and Best Drama, respectively, but our awards for Best Dressed go to Condola Rashad, who starred in Stick Fly which was produced by Alicia Keys, 2 Broke Girls actress Beth Behrs, and Sheryl Crow, who made her first public appearance since announcing she has a benign brain tumor.  Audra McDonald not only won Best Actress in a musical for her performance in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, but also Best Dressed as far as we’re concerned.  Likewise, Bernadette Peters received the Isabelle Stevenson Award as well as our Best Dressed nod.  Host Neil Patrick Harris, who jokingly called last night’s telecast “Fifty Shades of Gay”, didn’t look too shabby himself.

Costumes off, these stars sure do know how to dress!  Do you agree?  Let us know what you think!

Naeem Khan Fall 2012: The Handmade’s Tale

Naeem Khan Fall 2012 - FlyandMighty.com

Naeem Khan Fall 2012

Known for the luxurious handmade textiles he creates — and for dressing Michelle Obama for her first state dinner – Naeem Khan did not disappoint with his fall 2012 collection. In fact, it was hard to decide which was more beautiful; the fabrics or the pieces themselves. The details were incredible.

Beads were embroidered in swirling and floral patterns onto tulle, metallic threadwork was embroidered onto wool and silk, teardrops of beads were affixed onto sheers to create a 3D polka dot effect, and stretch cigarette pants were jet-beaded. One of my favorite pieces in the collection was a one-shoulder, full-skirted maxi gown with an oversized bow at the shoulder.

Check out this vintage backstage interview with Khan from the spring 2009 season in which he speaks about his textiles.

Move Over Rachel Zoe, Naeem Khan is the New Faux Fur Queen

Naeem Khan for HSN Faux Fur

When womenswear designer Naeem Khan debuted his faux fur collection for HSN this season, the reviews were beaming (and not just from PETA folks). It is, hands down, the softest faux fur I’ve ever touched. Sorry, Rachel Zoe, but it looks like Khan is out for your “Best Faux Fur Vest” title this year; the collection’s faux chinchilla, black mink, and ocelat are not to be missed. And with prices starting at $99, your wallet will be a fan, too. Love it when that happens!
