Men’s Spring 2013 Trends from Milan

Milan Men’s Fashion Week for Spring 2013 ended yesterday. I shifted through all the shows and was dazzled by the amazing looks and coming trends. Here are some of the top trends that I spotted:

Metallic

Alexander Mcqueen | Burberry | Canali | Ermenegildo Zegna | Roberto Cavalli

Oh boy! Looks like things are about to get shiny! Metallic was all over the collections and I am liking it completely! Burberry had my favorite rendition of the trend. The collection had metallic everything! My favorites were the trench coat and the button-down shirts.

Turquoise

Burberry | Canali | Fendi | Roberto Cavalli | Salvatore Ferragamo

If you love bright, you’re going to love the most seen color–turquoise! I personally love to flaunt this color (it brings out my eyes) because it’s eye-catching! What says spring more than a bright blue?

Floral

Bottega Venetta | Calvin Klein | Canali | Gucci

Typically floral pops up in women’s collections but it made its way to the men’s this season! The type of floral is not super masculine looking but it does set itself apart from the floral associated with a Hawaiian shirt. Will you embrace the flowery print?

Oversized Suits

Dolce & Gabbana | Giorgio Armani | John Varvatos | Versace | Z Zegna

I don’t know about you but I love my clothing fitted. Just about every collection had some form of an oversized suit. The collections still showcased a fitted suit but a bigger cut clearly will be a big trend! I don’t know if I could rock it, but maybe you can.

Colored Leather Jackets

Gucci | Corneliani | Emporio Armani | Ermenegildo Zegna | Neil Barrett

This is easily one of my favorite trends. There is nothing like a great leather jacket to sport at any time of the year–add some color and you have one amazing jacket! I think Emporio Armani’s navy is my favorite.

Oversized Shorts

Emporio Armani | Giorgio Armani | Jil Sanders | Neil Barrett | Z Zegna

Not everyone can make this oversized shorts work, but if you can, make it happen! There were a ton of short shorts spotted on the runway too, but definitely the designers had a preference for the larger kind. Looks like bigger cuts are huge in Spring 2013.

Long Short Sleeves

Calvin Klein | Dolce & Gabbana | Jil Sanders | Valentino | Z Zegna

I hope you are seeing the motif playing out–bigger is better. Are you ready for bigger clothing?

Double-Breasted Suit Jackets

Bottega Venetta | Canali | Ermenegildo Zegna | Gucci | John Varvatos

Normally a double-breasted suit jacket is seen as old-fashioned or just worn by an older generation. Well, button up! These jackets were everywhere! They were also seen in a ton of colors. Forget the black or blue suit, go for color!

Cornflower Blue

Alexander McQueen | Fendi | Gucci | Jil Sanders | Trussardi

You know that pale blue crayon you never used from your crayon box as a child? Well, it’s an ‘it’ color for Spring 2013. I like how it balances the bright turquoise. If you don’t want to be loud, you can rock this cornflower blue.

Rock New Year’s Eve, and 2012

End the year with a bang, after all, if you don’t end on the right foot, how can you start off on the right one?

The holidays are not only a time to get together with family and friends, they’re also a time to show off your fashion chops — and New Year’s is the biggest fashion show of them all. Runways are not only found in the fashion capitals of the world lovelies, they’re found at the mall, in your living room and in your favorite pub. People are always looking, why not give them something to talk about ;).

New Year’s is, unfortunately, always incredibly hyped up, but I’ve got some tips to help you make the best of whatever situation you find yourself in.

Make sure you wear a comfortable, but chic, dress or skirt. I’d say anything black with some sparkles should work — if you’re a thin/athletic type, go for the full on glitz and glam. If you’re a bit curvy, go for something that’s a bit looser. You want to look your best from all angles and in all photos. I like Black because I’m from New York, but also because people tend to be very sloppy in crowded bars and black hides all!

The best place to add a pop of color is with your accessories. I am always a fan of leopard and red (like these fabulous Fendi shoes I scored from BlueFly for Christmas!), but I also really love the color blocking look or something completely original like this YSL pump. Make your feet stand out and people will be sure to follow you all night long!

Next, add a funky stocking, especially if you’re celebrating in a cold place. Stockings come in all colors, patterns and styles. I’m a big fan of thigh-highs because you don’t have to worry about them falling down. I also really love anything with a pattern, especially if it is lace. These bow back seam stockings from Express are awesome because they give you a 40s glam look instantly. Express actually has a ton of stockings for the winter, including these cute snowflake pattern ones which beat out a holiday sweater any day!

Moving up, I think this skirt from Express would be great on most body types. They’ve also got some awesome dresses, depending on what looks best on you. Remember the most important thing is to be comfortable in your own skin this NYE, so be sure to try it on, dance around in the dressing room and do whatever you have to to make sure this outfit is the one for you.

Next post, I’ll go into some accessories and hairstyles for NYE.

Do you have anything in mind for NYE? Share your ideas with me!

Name the Designer: Which of these Shearling Booties is Fendi?

Fendi, L.A.M.B., Yves Saint Laurent did killer shearling booties for winter.
Hot Shearling Boot Options Abound This Winter
Pretty much every designer from Prada to Fendi to L.A.M.B. have killer shearling boot options for winter (how to choose!), but my fave incarnation is definitely Fendi’s. Can you tell which of these furry booties is Fendi?
