Tony Awards Best Dressed – Our Top 5

Broadway stars were shining last night at the 66th annual Tony Awards in NYC.  Once and Clybourne Park took home the Tony’s for Best Musical and Best Drama, respectively, but our awards for Best Dressed go to Condola Rashad, who starred in Stick Fly which was produced by Alicia Keys, 2 Broke Girls actress Beth Behrs, and Sheryl Crow, who made her first public appearance since announcing she has a benign brain tumor.  Audra McDonald not only won Best Actress in a musical for her performance in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, but also Best Dressed as far as we’re concerned.  Likewise, Bernadette Peters received the Isabelle Stevenson Award as well as our Best Dressed nod.  Host Neil Patrick Harris, who jokingly called last night’s telecast “Fifty Shades of Gay”, didn’t look too shabby himself.

Costumes off, these stars sure do know how to dress!  Do you agree?  Let us know what you think!

10 Tips for a Stress Free Prom

In a couple of weeks my freshman year of college will be coming to an end Yayyy!! (it’s bittersweet lol). Nonetheless, I remember so clearly this time last year my mind going crazy over prom! I used to think that prom was just about pretty prom dress and a fly date, but boy was I wrong; there is so much more to it. Here is a list of 10 stress free tips to make your prom most memorable.

  1. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare- Make sure your night goes as smoothly as possible don’t wait until the last minute for anything.
  2. Make sure your appointments are set- Walk-ins are hard to come by around this time so make sure your spot is secured.
  3. Make sure everyone knows the location of prom – No one wants to be late to their prom because of a lost driver or confused Uncle. Have a GPS handy!
  4. Make sure your dress fits- Your dress must fit your personality, your figure, your everything. Quiet as kept your dress is the focus of the night.
  5. Don’t try too hard to be different-Less is more when it comes to your prom look. Simplicity allows more room for accessories and maybe a pop of lip!
  6. Make sure you can walk in your heels- Your strut should be just as fierce as you.
  7. Carry a clutch-  You’ll be surprised how much it can hold–your phone, ID, money/card, keys and anything else you may need. Who wants to lug around a big bag anyway?
  8. Make sure your date is prepared- Although he doesn’t know it, he is an accessory. It’s only right that he matches your fly.
  9. Bring a change of clothes- The night eventually comes to an end and when it does you want to be cute and comfortable afterward.
  10. Enjoy the day- Relax!! You only get one Prom enjoy!!!

Pre-Fashion Week, Rachel Roy Raises Funds & Awareness for OrphanAID Africa

The eve of New York Fashion Week is usually reserved for philanthropic fashion presentations and events, and this season is no different. Last night Rachel Roy, Vogue International Editor at Large Hamish Bowles, and other fashion friends came out to the private room on the second floor of Manhattan’s Lion Restaurant to raise funds for and awareness of OrphanAID Africa. Proceeds from the silent auction of Ghanaian photographer Eric Don-Arthur’s images were raised for the organization, as will sales from the limited edition clutch Roy designed for OrphanAID Africa.

Lisa Lovatt-Smith, a former Vogue editor who founded OrphanAID Africa in 2002, has leveraged her well-heeled contacts in the past, collaborating with Margherita Missoni this past November on a capsule collection. The charity, based in Ghana, works to reform childcare policy in the West African nation, care for abandoned children, and support families on the verge of giving up their children for financial reasons offering monetary assistance, job training, and other tools to help keep children at home with their families.

Being Ghanaian and having spent ages 12-15 attending school in the country, I can attest to the phenomenon of desperate families sending their children away to earn income for the family, and in some cases giving them to orphanages because they can’t afford them. Needless to say the charity is more than dear to my heart. You can support the org by picking up the clutch Rachel designed. Hilary Swank, Selma Blair, and Vogue Italia’s Franca Sozzani already have one.
