The 2012 Academy Awards will be airing this Sunday (8 PM on ABC), and we are so darn excited to see what all of the celebs will be wearing on the Red Carpet! Oh yeah, and who will win the coveted statue…
In anticipation of this year’s awards, we have compiled a list of our favorite Red Carpet fashionistas from years’ past. Let us know if you agree!

10. Jennifer Lawrence, 2011 (Calvin Klein)
Last year, Jennifer Lawrence defined va va voom in her slinky, red Calvin Klein dress. Though the first-time nominee was a relative newcomer to the Red Carpet scene, she earned major fashion cred by rocking this sexy silhouette. Lawrence topped off her look with gorgeous, free-flowing hair and bedroom-eye makeup. Now that she has cemented her stardom by starring in The Hunger Games, we hope to see many more standout Red Carpet looks from this lovely young actress!

9. Joan Allen, 2001 (Michael Kors)
Though she lost the Best Actress prize to Julia Roberts, actress Joan Allen won the acclaim of fashion lovers everywhere in 2001, when she donned a sensational, tangerine Michael Kors gown. The bold color perfectly complimented her sun-kissed skin, and stood out against the sea of muted gowns that peppered the carpet that year. Her sexy blonde bob gave Allen’s look an extra edge. Definitely one of the best Oscar Red Carpet moments in recent memory!

8. Sharon Stone, 1998 (Husband’s Shirt + Vera Wang Skirt)
Ms. Basic Instinct certainly went back to basics with her 1998 look, when she paired her (now ex-) husband Phil Bronstein’s white button-up shirt with a fitted Vera Wang skirt. She had made headlines a few years earlier, when she wore a Gap T-Shirt to the Oscars, but her 1998 look stood out more because of the unique juxtaposition of casual, “morning after” chic with upscale glamour. This risky fashion choice could have gone either way—especially on an actress lacking Stone’s sexy self-confidence—but the look totally worked!

7. Halle Berry, 2002 (Elie Saab)
Best Actress winner Halle Berry turned heads in 2002 with her barely-there Elie Saab gown. Between the strategically places flowers on her mostly see-through bodice, and her low-cut taffeta skirt, Berry left little to the imagination (à la J Lo at the 2000 Grammys). When Berry won the coveted prize for her role in Monster’s Ball, and delivered her infamous, lengthy acceptance speech, her dress was sealed in history as one of the most recognizable Oscar fashion moments of the past decade.

6. Charlize Theron, 2004 (Gucci)
How ironic that the year she won the Oscar for her unrecognizable portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, Charlize Theron wore THE sexiest, most stunning Red Carpet look at the 2004 Oscars. Her shimmery Gucci halter featured an extremely high slit, an incredibly low back, and fit Theron like a glove. She contrasted her silver gown with bronzed, glowing skin, smoky eyes, and a stylish, bleached bob. Definitely a Red Carpet moment we won’t soon forget!

5. Natalie Portman 2009 (Rodarte)
Not only is Natalie Portman a talented actress, she is also an impeccable fashionista! She selects wardrobe pieces which flatter her petite frame, and always looks sleek and sophisticated. Portman also consistently compliments her clothing with gorgeous hair, makeup, and accessories. Her look at the 2009 Academy Awards, was no exception: Portman wore a stunning, pink Rodarte dress, paired with a sleek updo, smoky eyes, and simple diamond stud earrings. Though Portman’s Oscar Red Carpet moment from 2011 will likely be the one everyone remembers (eggplant dress, baby bump, and, oh yeah, Oscar himself), we’ll always look back fondly upon her 2009 look.

4. Jessica Alba, 2006 (Versace)
Though Jessica Alba is often typecast as “the hottie,” her look at the 2006 Oscars elevated her from silver screen sex symbol to Hollywood glamazon. The actress wore a gorgeous gold Versace halter, with mermaid-style skirt and stunning floral lace appliqué. The hue perfectly complimented Alba’s glowing copper skin, and the style flattered the star’s flawless figure. Her upswept hair, teardrop earrings, and fresh makeup added that extra polish to her already stunning silhouette. Can’t get enough!

3. Reese Witherspoon, 2007 (Nina Ricci)
2007 was a banner year for Reese Witherspoon: She stood out on EVERY Red Carpet during awards season because of her fresh, fabulous hair, and flawless fashion choices! The actress did not disappoint at the Oscars, when she wore a lovely, deep purple Nina Ricci gown. The mermaid-style dress stood out because of its unique ombre, layered train, and flattering fit. Though sparkly, over-the-top gowns oftetn dominate the Oscars, we love this understated, chic look.

2. Sandra Bullock, 2010 (Marchesa)
Not only did Sandra Bullock win Best Actress for The Blind Side at the 2010 Oscars, she looked positively regal in her silver Marchesa gown. The lovely capped-sleeved, silver and lace gown was utterly gorgeous. Bullock complimented her standout gown with sleek, side-parted hair and simple drop diamond earrings. Though the actress faced a tough road shortly after her Oscar win, in this moment, she looked beautiful and happy. We’ll always love this look!

1. Charlize Theron, 2000 (Vera Wang)
If ever there were a memorable Oscar fashion moment, it is surely Charlize Theron’s stunning deep orange Vera Wang gown from the 2000 Academy Awards. The statuesque actress defined Classic Hollywood glamour in her fitted, mermaid-style gown, replete with rhinestone brooch accents and a 1920s-style bob. This timeless look has made countless best dressed lists over the years, and has become the gold standard of Oscar gowns. We’ll see if anyone manages to outdo Ms. Theron’s legendary look at this year’s Academy Awards!
Can’t wait to see what the nominees wear to this year’s awards! Will Rooney Mara wear something dark and goth in honor of her character, Lisbeth? Will Michelle Williams wear a classic silhouette? Will Octavia Spencer wear Tadashi Shoji again? We’ll have to find out! Be sure to follow me as I live tweet this year’s awards for @bluefly_com (I’m #carlyBF)!
