Fly Nation

This is not a blog. Okay, technically it is, but the point is, we didn’t create it to dispense lofty fashion counsel from behind oversized Jackie O shades. We built it because we ultimately want to interact with a Fly Nation of fashion lovers of every stripe (or floral). So whether you’re a professional fashion personality, card-carrying fashionista, or a closet shopaholic, if there’s an insane designer you think EVERYONE should check out, a great article/blog post you want to share/rant about, or you simply need to point out how crazy amazing Ann Curry’s been looking on the Today Show lately, this is the place to blog it—or read all about it!

Marc New York’s Fall Campaign: Fifty Shades of Grey

Andrew Marc‘s new ad campaign is based on the popular book of the moment, Fifty Shades of Grey.  It’s inevitable that this erotic novel is influencing the fashion world!  Photographed by Marc’s creative director, Chris Gbur, the ad consists of 2008 Miss Universe winner Dayana Mendoza as Anatasia Steele and former Scottish rugby player Thom Evans as Christian Grey.  For the campaign, Evans has a low hanging towel while Mendoza wears a zipped down dress.  The ads will run in the September and October issues of Glamour and People Style Watch.  Clever marketing!

Olympian Sarah Robles Loves to Wear Jill Alexander

Olympic weightlifter Sarah Robles was determined to find something to fit her 275-lb frame.  She was disappointed that she could not find the right clothes to fit her body type and sense of style.

Jill Alexander, who specializes in clothing for plus-size women, was able to help.  Alexander and Robles got together and created a collection for Robles for interviews and press events.  “She’s the perfect role model,” says Alexander.  “She’s one of the top athletes in the world. She’s not unhealthy, she’s not lazy, but she has trouble finding clothes that fit well. She’s empowering women to speak out and say, ‘I deserve better from the fashion industry.’”

Robles loves the clothing. “I packed one of her yellow wrap [dresses] with fun dots and squares on it, along with a taupe lacey top,” says Robles. “They make me feel gorgeous, confident and flirty.”  Sarah is on a mission to change the way plus sized women and girls view themselves. GO SARAH!

Jason Wu to Launch Miss Wu in January 2013

Jason Wu just announced the launch of Miss Wu, a collection that more people can afford!  Wu is branching out from his sophisticated, sexy silhouettes and reaching toward a younger crowd.  The collection will exclusively be sold in Nordstrom stores starting in January and then will located to other stores after the first year. Are you excited?  I definitely am!

The line is simliar to his Target line. It will be more relaxed and vintage but at the same time feminine.  “Instead of just doing ‘Jason Wu-for-less,’ the idea is to explore the other side of myself,” Wu said.  “I always see Jason Wu as my aesthetic, my design sensibility. Miss Wu is my personality. It was really fun to explore that facet of who I am — slightly more downtown, and with a more relaxed attitude.”

I’m counting down the days and so should you!

Miley Cyrus Goes Blonde

Miley tweeted a picture of herself with her new hair saying “Now that I’m blonde I gotta give duck lips in every photo.”

Is it true that blondes have more fun?  Miley Cyrus must think so.  Even though she is no longer Hannah Montana, she has decided to switch up her look and go blonde. This isn’t the only change that Cyrus has undergone recently. Along with rocking a new do, Liam Hemsworth’s finance has been getting in shape by attending pilates classes.  She looks great and fit.  The star knows how to keep everyone talking! Looks like someone is preparing for some big news. Do I sense some new music in the works? Maybe even a tour? We’ll have to keep watching!

What do you think of Miley’s new hair?  Does she look better as a blonde?

YSL eyeshadow inspired by Facebook

Is it that hard to believe that designers are modeling their products after Facebook?  Not really. YSL has come out with a limited edition palette that will be sold through their Facebook page starting on July 19th. Only 1,650 were made so don’t miss a chance to ‘like’ this product!!

The YSL pallete consists of  he signature Facebook blue and white, along with a black and a warm-grey shade.  YSL believes it is a “declaration of love” to their fans, “[weaving] together the now highly identifiable Facebook blue with the luxurious Yves Saint Laurent design.”  Smart idea, YSL’s social media team!

What do you think about this?
