Fly Nation

This is not a blog. Okay, technically it is, but the point is, we didn’t create it to dispense lofty fashion counsel from behind oversized Jackie O shades. We built it because we ultimately want to interact with a Fly Nation of fashion lovers of every stripe (or floral). So whether you’re a professional fashion personality, card-carrying fashionista, or a closet shopaholic, if there’s an insane designer you think EVERYONE should check out, a great article/blog post you want to share/rant about, or you simply need to point out how crazy amazing Ann Curry’s been looking on the Today Show lately, this is the place to blog it—or read all about it!

Betsey Johnson is Back!

Bestey is back! After filing for bankruptcy in April, the queen of being unpredictable has (no surprise) shocked us again! Betsey has paired with The Levy Group to send down a collection of dresses on the Spring/Summer 2013 runway. Her comeback line will range in price from $99 to $249 dollars. We’re expecting this runway show to be anything but ordinary. Bestey has declared, “I’m back! Doing my dress thing. Pretty and punk, sweet and sexy, always rock n’ roll.” Preach.

Emma Stone Sparkles in an Elie Saab Jumpsuit at The Amazing Spiderman London Premiere

Emma Stone looked like a true fashion icon last night at the London premiere of The Amazing Spider Man. She wore a jumpsuit designed by Elie Saab from the Fall 2012 collection. The jumpsuit was originally shown on the runway with a black belt. Emma opted for an orange belt which adds a fresh pop of color and accentuates her small frame. It is clear Emma Stone is not only becoming a hit with the box office but also the fashion world.

Jeanius: ManRepeller’s Denim-on-Denim Look

Blogger and newlywed Leandra Medine may be best known for her “man repelling” outfits, but this denim-on-denim look (overalls + denim shirt + denim vest + denim-blue heels) is simply magnetic. This summer, don’t be afraid of a denim overload. Layer jean shorts and a denim vest (summer wardrobe musts, by the way)  to add edge to your hot weather look. Denim shoes and accessories are also becoming an obsession among designers. Margiela makes a pair of denim sneakers (who wouldn’t want to own those?) while Derek Lam propelled the trend forward with his Resort 2013 collection. So, let your inner denim diva shine through–you’re sure to snag that man while you’re at it. Just ask Leandra.

Khloe Kardashian’s “Choo” Love

Lam-Lam better watch his back: Khloe Kardashian Odom may have another leading man in her life and his name is Jimmy Choo.  Khloe stepped out in New York City last month wearing these gorgeous Jimmy Choo “Vivienne” platform sandals. Paired with a deconstructed blazer LBD, the black, orange and pink studded platform sandals put the perfect point on Khloe’s date night chic.

Back to School Holidaze

The month of August doesn’t leave young girls with any excuse to celebrate, but rather brings the glooming idea that summer is coming to an abrupt close. The one worth while event of the month revolves around every girl’s favorite activity, shopping. You all know what event I am talking about. It is the ultimate excuse to force your mother to whip out her credit card–it’s back-to-school shopping. Need I say more? Acquiring a brand new wardrobe makes the idea of sitting in a desk rather than poolside a little more bearable. Teen Vogue has answered young girls prayers everywhere and is promoting August 11th as a national holiday for back-to-school shopping.

Unfortuantely, by sending me to Catholic school my mother was always able to avoid the highly anticipated back to school shopping spree. Instead I was forced into my uniform which consisted of a plaid skirt, knee high socks, and button down top. Yes, I walked the halls looking like Britney Spears in her “Hit Me Baby One More Time” music video (minus the sex appeal). Needless to say when I went to college I took back all those lost years of spending my mother’s money on clothes. After all, every girl needs the perfect first day back-to-school outfit. Or, if you go a little overboard, have twenty different first day back to school options. But who’s counting?

Teen Vogue realized how expensive back to school shopping can be and partnered with different companies to offer sales, free samples, and in-store events. Participants for the first national back-to-school shopping day will include: Guess, American Eagle Outfitters, Express, H&M, Maybelline New York, Cover Girl etc. On behalf of young girls everywhere and our mother’s credit cards, thank you Teen Vogue for finally acknowledging August 11th as a national holiday to shop and save.

Keep Calm Carry On,

Kerri Holbrook
