Fly Nation

This is not a blog. Okay, technically it is, but the point is, we didn’t create it to dispense lofty fashion counsel from behind oversized Jackie O shades. We built it because we ultimately want to interact with a Fly Nation of fashion lovers of every stripe (or floral). So whether you’re a professional fashion personality, card-carrying fashionista, or a closet shopaholic, if there’s an insane designer you think EVERYONE should check out, a great article/blog post you want to share/rant about, or you simply need to point out how crazy amazing Ann Curry’s been looking on the Today Show lately, this is the place to blog it—or read all about it!

Warmth Is Where the Heart Is

Love is in the air, and there is nothing I love more than jewelry! In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I dug deep into my jewelry arsenal to pull out my favorite hearts,…which I “heart”. These pieces all have a deep meaning and sentimental value. My advice is to always wear your heart on your sleeve as well as around your neck. After all, when you don a piece that you hold near and dear, it helps you shine and sparkle even more!

(From Left to Right, counter clockwise)

-My diamond heart belonged to my Aunt Libby, who passed away. She always called me her, “heart”. I usually wear it with a shorter diamond necklaces layered. Multiplying sparkle and shine during the day works, as long as it’s with delicate pieces.

-I have collected heart charms since I was a little girl. These are from my Mom, Aunt, Dad, and a flea market. I will string them on a thin chain to wear in a cluster all at once for a bold look.

-This engraved gold heard belonged to my Great Grandmother. Her birthday is marked with a tiny diamond on the front. I have never seen another piece quite like this. It’s unique design with intricate detail make this one of my favorite heirlooms (p.s.- it has a pin back as well).

-One of my favorite movies of ALL TIME, is “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead”! I had a the this quote etched on a heart on a long chain. Its fun- its so me!

DIY Blooms from Inspiration

I see things, I like things, and P.S.- I make a whole lotta things!  The art of DIY is all about inspiration.  My creative arsenal is comprised of many elements that stem from fashion, home décor, design, art, cooking, and travel.

Recently, I took a trip of a lifetime to Morocco.  My eyes were in awe from the moment I landed in Marrakech.  With my camera, iPhone (Twitter, Instagram, & Facebook ), 2 extra suitcases (to tote home goodies) and a sketch pad, I set out to discover Morocco… my way.

A good bit of my time was spent meandering though the local Souks, which are the amazing open-air markets where thousands of people cram into small stalls to sell their goods…and by good, I mean great!  These ultimate flea markets house everything from clothes, food, accessories, and more.  Experiencing the brilliant creation process of hand-crafted rugs, (which I brought home 5 of) eye-catching hammered jewelry, and artisan pottery was unreal.  One of my favorite finds was a silver and enamel “box bracelet”, which I brought home for my best friend, that pulls double duty acting as a container and a chic accessory.  After all, Who doesn’t love a 2 for 1?

The trip was phenomenal, I can’t wait to go back, until then- Stay tuned for some Moroccan inspired DIY’s…
