Fly Nation

This is not a blog. Okay, technically it is, but the point is, we didn’t create it to dispense lofty fashion counsel from behind oversized Jackie O shades. We built it because we ultimately want to interact with a Fly Nation of fashion lovers of every stripe (or floral). So whether you’re a professional fashion personality, card-carrying fashionista, or a closet shopaholic, if there’s an insane designer you think EVERYONE should check out, a great article/blog post you want to share/rant about, or you simply need to point out how crazy amazing Ann Curry’s been looking on the Today Show lately, this is the place to blog it—or read all about it!

Ms. Hilton you must be worth a trillion bucks

Let’s take a look at Paris Hilton from tonight’s 2012 Grammy Awards:

Now, repeat after me: FLAWLESS PERFECTION.

Since the reign of the Kardashians, America’s OG socialite has mostly been shunned by the mainstream (honey, we know you’re hard up for some ATT, but a reality show on Oxygen of all networks?).

But THIS! In a stunning Basil Soda gown, Princess P reminds us of her talents we fell in love with nearly a decade ago — the pose! The platinum! The pout!

With a new Afrojack produced album coming this year, 2012 might be the year Paris snatches the wigs right back from her fellow celebutantes. I leave you with Paris’ Grammy Award winning smash “Stars Are Blind.”

Knicks Knockout

Anna Wintour was looking on FIRE at the Knicks/Bulls game at Madison Square  Garden last week (oh hai, Julia! We see you too!)

With a flame colored top and long red skirt with some black bossy boots, you would never recgonize Vogue’s HBIC was taking in the game courtside, right?

We know what you’re thinking…Anna? Sports? Well, Anna has been a pretty big supporter over the years for her hometown boys. Word on the street is she also has a thing for MSG nachos. ..

What do you think of Anna’s bball chic look?

John Varvatos x Green Day

With new music slated for later this year, it’s safe to assume the fine gents of Green Day are going to be looking pretty dandy when promoting their forthcoming disc. The band has officially signed on to be the new mugs of John Varvatos’ Spring/Summer 2012 campaign.

The band’s campaign, which draws inspiration from the classic “Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam” photograph, finds the guys fooling around on crossbeams overlooking NYC — while decked out in some pretty bad ass leather and denim duds. Check out the behind the scenes video, which features some of Green Day’s biggest riffs:

Victoria Beckham is Numéro Uno

In her first magazine spread since giving birth to baby Harper, Victoria Beckham is looking very Spice Girls circa 2000 on the March 2012 cover of Japanese fashion mag Numéro.

In a bright colored trench, V.Becks rocks some longer locks than her usual bob, which can’t help but remind us of her video look from the Spice’s ill-fated R&B guilty pleasure, “Holler.”

With a new baby Beckham, fashion empire to run and possible Spice Girls reunion, Vicky seems poised to own 2012 like she has every other year of her celebrity. While we celebrate Posh’s return to the glossies, let’s look back at some of her most memorable magazine covers…

Blue “Fly” Ivy

Alright, so who isn’t extremely jealous of newborn Babyonce? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Since little Blue Ivy has maybe the flyest parents on the planet, she’s going to have to play catch up if she wants to ball-so-hard like her Mom and Dad. We have some tips for some hot baby swag that will make her parents proud.

Stella McCartney Kid, beige winter coat

Since Blue is a winter baby, she’s gonna have to bundle up these next few months — especially when Queen B takes her little girl for a stroll through blustery Brooklyn. This Stella McCartney parka from Chicago’s baby hotspot Wonder! will keep her toasty.

Oilily leggings

B-Girl has never been one to hide her curves, often rocking leotards and leggings on and off stage. So why not get her mini me in the legging spirit too? These Oilily leggings for the little ones aren’t cheap at a steep $99, but little Blue is bound to look like a rock star.

Chanel-inspired bed set

We’re not sure what the aesthetic is like at the Carter household, but we’re thinking it’s anything but simple. If B is looking to pass the passion for couture onto Blue, why not kick things off with this Chanel-inspired bedding from PoshTots?

Neon Hitch Brings Some Color to Gym Class

Gypsy pop siren Neon Hitch is not one to tone it down. The flame-haired chanteuse spent 2010 creeping into our pop consciousness thanks to her unique, electropop, soul-infused sound and eccentric sense of style, which usually includes hot pants and headdresses.

This past year, she released her first video for the Sia co-penned kiss-off “Get Over U,” dropped buzz tracks like the Wale assisted banger “Silly Girl” and put out a viral video collection of hip-hop covers, including Kreayshawn’s hand bag anthem “Gucci Gucci.” As she preps her debut album Beg, Borrow and Steal for release next year, Neon’s ending 2010 with a bang, lending her vocals and bringing her swag to Gym Class Heroes’ new single “Ass Back Home.”

Neon in vintage YSL at the Z100 Jingle Ball

In the recently released music video for “Ass Back Home,” Neon sulks around her apartment waiting for her man to return — in major style. And can we discuss the luscious mermaid locks? Ariel is officially jealous.

Neon’s favorite look from the video? A sheer, purple cover up with intricate lime accents by Mara Hoffman. The floor length piece is pretty revealing, but for a chick who has quickly been getting recognition for her *ahem* assets by the likes of FHM, the high-fashion wrap is not something Neon needed to think twice about rocking.

Cassie throws down her ‘King of Hearts’

In a world of warbling showstoppers like Beyonce and Adele, it’s oft-forgotten that model/part-time actress/full-time Diddy’s gurl Cassie is first and foremost a singer. Since her 2006 mega-hit “Me & U,” the R&B crooner has released a series of singles, none of which have set the charts on fire. But with a new label, new music (and maybe some another new…assets), Cassie is poised to take over the music scene once again with her new single “King of Hearts.”

With super swagged out style that only the First Lady of Bad Boy can pull off, Cassie is so hot she literally burns things up in the trailer for her new music video:

And since there’s no such thing as too many photos of Cassie, let’s revisit some of her most daring looks over the years…

Re-Wearing Is the New Re-Gifting, Lauren Conrad Says So

December is, like, so socially overwhelming. Personally, I’m dealing with Christmas, my 24th birthday, Hanukkah (shout out to all my fellow half Jews), New Year’s parties, work holiday functions, friend’s holiday get togethers and Britney Spears’ 30th Birthday. And while all of these celebrations would love to get a Tom Ford suit of their own, it’s just not going to happen.

But don’t let your social obligations this year cause you fashion anxiety – Lauren Conrad says so. Like re-gifting, re-wearing is in this season. Here are the steps you need to take to make this work:

1. Invest in one great piece. I’m going to choose this $850 sequined blazer by Unconditional.

2. Accessorize! Maybe if I wear a muted tie with this blazer at my work holiday party, my coworker will never notice I’m also wearing the blazer when she comes to my birthday party.

3. Layer! Maybe if I gingerly wrap a bohemian scarf around my neck, it will tone down the sequins so that you don’t really notice the sparkle in Facebook photos from New Years next to the tagged photo of me in the blazer at my friend’s wine and cheese party a few weeks earlier.

4. Blame Lauren Conrad when people start whispering about you at one of your many events.

Alright, so maybe we’re being a bit dramatic and Lauren Conrad does have a point (or a new line for Paper Crown to hawk). Maybe a sequined blazer isn’t the best piece for repeated value…but it certainly is festive.

Hipster poptart Sky Ferreira leaves her “Traces”

Fact: Singer/model/actress Sky Ferreira is way cooler than you will ever be. While her peers are hawking lines for K-Mart (Selena Gomez) and releasing fragrances with names like Wonderstruck! (T. Swift), Ferreira can be spotted in nationwide campaigns for Calvin Klein and Adidas, gracing the covers of fashion mags like Vs. and Wonderland and keeping company with the likes of Terry Richardson (careful, gurl!).

It-girl hype aside, Ferreira remains a singer first and foremost. She dropped her debut EP As If! last March and is in the studio recording her full length debut for release next year. She recently found some time to shoot a video for her song “Traces,” the haunting dub-step infused ballad she co-penned with gypsy pop chanteuse Neon Hitch and songwriter Colin Munroe.

Shot by Rankin for the launch of his Hunger TV website — a companion to his new bi-annual magazine Hunger — the video sees Sky and her trademark mane of hair writhing around with…vampire teeth? Yeah, we’re not sure what it means either, but Sky is so bad she can probably sparkle in the sun too. Deal with it.

Cheryl Cole graces cover of UK InStyle

Cheryl

Popstar/personality/all-around-icon Cheryl Cole is the cover girl of the December issue of the UK InStyle magazine. Poised with a blonde bob, a proper pout and a pair of crisp white gloves to protect her otherworldly hands from the citizens that inhabit the rest of the world, Britain’s “national treasure” looks calm and confident and ready to take on 2012. Ms. Cole told the mag she is not only prepping a new album set for release early in the new year, but she is also launching a shoe line and discusses a potential Cheryl fragrance. Because who wouldn’t want to smell like the Geordie goddess?
