Hooray! The 2012 Emmys are just around the corner (the telecast airs September 23 at 7 PM on ABC), and I can barely contain my excitement! I’m especially pumped to watch my Late Night crush, Jimmy Kimmel, host the big event. Should be a great show!
Though there is much to look forward to during the ceremony, I am most excited for the Red Carpet fashion! In anticipation of this year’s Emmys, I’ve decided to take a look back at my Top Emmys Red Carpet looks over the past decade. Enjoy!
Eva Longoria, 2007 (Kaufman Franco)
Gorgeous Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria has made nearly every one of my Top Red Carpet Looks lists, but I promise I’m not playing favorites! The star consistently knocks it out of the park when it comes to Red Carpet fashion. Her 2007 Emmys selection was no exception! The actress changed it up by selecting a cocktail-length dress, instead of the more traditional floor-length, formal gowns. Though the style is typically a bit casual for a formal Red Carpet appearance, this Kaufman Franco dress was totally Red Carpet-appropriate with its stunning gold sequins, and sexy silhouette. The actress rounded out her look with a gorgeous faux-bob, stunning drop earrings, and sleek nude pumps. Definitely one of her most fab Red Carpet looks!
Vanessa Williams, 2007 (Kevan Hall)
By far the boldest gown on my list, Vanessa Williams’ Kevan Hall gown stole the show on the 2007 Red Carpet. Her risky choice could have easily bombed on any other actress, but Williams’ confidence, beauty, and stunning body helped her pull off the unforgettable look. The mint, empire-waist, mermaid-style dress was already a standout selection, but its feather-covered bodice and train added an extra “wow” factor. Because her ensemble was so intricate and fashion-forward, the actress stuck with a sleek updo, and fresh, simple makeup. Here’s hoping she pulls out all the stops for her next Red Carpet look!
Lea Michele, 2010 (Oscar de la Renta)
Lea Michele has made a habit of looking fab on the Red Carpet, and her look at the 2010 Emmys was definitely one of her stand-out style moments! The Glee actress chose a fabulous Oscar de la Renta, mermaid-style gown for the event. Michele has worn a number of de la Renta Gowns, but this navy, ruched and ruffled number was a bold choice that paid off. The fitted dress accentuated her petite frame, and the dark hue complimented her glowing tan skin. I especially love how Michele did high-drama jewelry, but low-key, hair. She captured the elegance of the formal gown, but kept it youthful with her loose waves. I look forward to seeing her latest style choice at the next big Red Carpet event!
Sofía Vergara, 2011 (Carolina Hererra)
The Modern Family matriarch has dominated Best Dressed lists since she exploded onto the TV scene, and it’s clear why: The woman knows how to ROCK her curves! Vergara chose a fitted, strapless, A-line dress, which looked fantastic on her gorgeous figure. The unique butter-yellow color helped her to stand out on the carpet (not that she needed much help!), and the strategically-placed sequins helped to further accentuate her va-va-voom curves. Vergara coupled her gorgeous gown with flowing brunette curls, major chandelier earrings, and glowing makeup. She effortlessly exemplified the perfect balance of glam, sophistication, and sex appeal. All-in-all, a look that Emmy viewers won’t soon forget! I am anxious to see what she chooses for this year’s ceremony – she’s nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Modern Family.
Katherine Heigl, 2006 (Escada)
Katherine Heigl tops my list! Her 2006 flapper-inspired gown was the perfect choice for the Grey’s Anatomy actress, who, at the time, was one of the biggest stars of Prime Time. The silver, sequined Escada gown evoked classic Hollywood glamour, but its sexy, fitted form complimented Heigl’s youthful, carefree attitude. She accented her stunning dress with a wavy, low side bun and bold black eyeliner, but kept her accessories simple: Small earrings and a baguette clutch. Though the actress wouldn’t win her Emmy for another year (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, 2007), she won major style points for her unforgettable 2006 look. Fingers crossed that we’ll see her on many more Red Carpets to come!
I’m hoping this year’s Emmys features standout style stars on the Red Carpet! I’m especially looking forward to seeing the gowns worn by Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Claire Danes (Homeland), Julianne Moore (Game Change), Nicole Kidman (Hemingway & Gellhorn), and, of course, Sofía Vergara (Modern Family)!
