elizabeth olsen & dakota fanning film very good girls

ELizabeth Olsen and Dakota Fanning are still hard at work shooting ‘Very Good Girls.’ Hopefully Elizabeth and Dakota are getting along well, given how much time they’re spending workingtogether! I wouldn’t have thought to put these two together, but it’s a great casting choice. I’m SO curious about this movie. I’m definitely keeping an eye out for the trailer.

And I love Elizabeth’s scarf. Can’t imagine wearing it in this hot weather. I’d wear it in a second in the fall!

Marc New York’s Fall Campaign: Fifty Shades of Grey

Andrew Marc‘s new ad campaign is based on the popular book of the moment, Fifty Shades of Grey.  It’s inevitable that this erotic novel is influencing the fashion world!  Photographed by Marc’s creative director, Chris Gbur, the ad consists of 2008 Miss Universe winner Dayana Mendoza as Anatasia Steele and former Scottish rugby player Thom Evans as Christian Grey.  For the campaign, Evans has a low hanging towel while Mendoza wears a zipped down dress.  The ads will run in the September and October issues of Glamour and People Style Watch.  Clever marketing!

Fall 2012 Trend: Checkered Plaid

A roundup of fall trends just isn’t complete without some checkered plaid, and designers agree. Runways were filled with the classic print, whether it was on tailored suit pieces, such as Cynthia Rowley, Tory Burch, and Ralph Lauren, or more feminine apparel, including skirts by Anna Sui or dresses by Roccobarocco. As far as fabrics and materials go, the thicker, the better, as you’ll be seeing checkered plaid on wool coats, heavy-knit sweaters, and even boucle-like bags and heels. If you’re hoping to try this trend without breaking a sweat, opt for a silk-printed scarf, fitted trousers, or a shopper tote. Whatever the garment may be, this popular pattern is a must-have. Shop our slideshow above to channel your inner Cher Horowitz—you’ll be a total betty in no time.

Kate Beckinsale Looks Stylish for her Birthday

kate beckinsale has birthday dinner

Total Recall‘ star Kate Beckinsale also celebrated her birthday Thursday. Happy Belated Birthday! Kate turned 39. She had what looks like a quiet birthday dinner at Little Door restaurant with her husband, Len Wiseman.

Is that Kate’s teenage daughter, Lily, with the purple hair? She’s not identified in the pictures, but they’re holding hands (you can see in the gallery). If that is Lily, it looks like she’s going through an “experimental” phase- LOL. Kate looks FAB in those black leather pants. Go Kate!

Fall 2012 Trend: Lurex

When the holidays come around, be sure to stock up on lurex, the lush fabric that twinkles just a hint of metallic, instead of blast-from-the-past sequins. The hunt for this look will be easy, as designers decided to take advantage of this festive material by updating classic and simple silhouettes for fall and winter. Prabal Gurung knitted the shiny thread into his macabre-like graphic sweaters (another fall trend!) while Marc Jacobs and Tibi dressed their models in head-to-toe lurex, from boxy sweatshirt tops, double-breasted coats, and short skirts, to cropped trousers. But for those that want to try this trend without the glittery pizzaz, check out Bottega Veneta and Rue de Mail, who adorned their long dresses and gowns in a demure black-and-gold lurex.

Loopy for Stripes

Stripes can be super fun and playful. They can be colorful. They can be whatever you want them to be–even nautical. Anya Ziourova Fashion Director, Tatler Russia and Freelance Stylist definitely went the bold, vibrant direction with her choosing.

Would you wear either look?

Olympian Sarah Robles Loves to Wear Jill Alexander

Olympic weightlifter Sarah Robles was determined to find something to fit her 275-lb frame.  She was disappointed that she could not find the right clothes to fit her body type and sense of style.

Jill Alexander, who specializes in clothing for plus-size women, was able to help.  Alexander and Robles got together and created a collection for Robles for interviews and press events.  “She’s the perfect role model,” says Alexander.  “She’s one of the top athletes in the world. She’s not unhealthy, she’s not lazy, but she has trouble finding clothes that fit well. She’s empowering women to speak out and say, ‘I deserve better from the fashion industry.’”

Robles loves the clothing. “I packed one of her yellow wrap [dresses] with fun dots and squares on it, along with a taupe lacey top,” says Robles. “They make me feel gorgeous, confident and flirty.”  Sarah is on a mission to change the way plus sized women and girls view themselves. GO SARAH!
