In between throwing back icy glasses of lemon-squeezed water (my new drink of choice) and star watching the insider crowd of some of NY’s most popular urban radio stations at a little shindig last night, I took notice that quite a few ladies were wearing Babydoll style tops and dresses. The patterns were eye-catching: houndstooth, paisley, dark washed denim and the looks were accessorized in a charming fashion, but I just couldn’t help thinking that they looked sort of motherly, or girlie in a not-very-cute way or in their first trimester.
Or something.
But still I couldn’t deny the dual-edged sword allure of the pieces, the same allure that always makes me happily grab for a Babydoll dress/top on the rack, hold it to my chest, pause, and then thrust it back with a sour taste in my mouth.
Though it’s cute and fun, it still doesn’t really work.
It’s almost like the bad boy–the one labeled DO NOT ANSWER in your cellphone–a label that clearly should prompt the ‘Delete Entry?” button but you never do…
