Between Beyonce’s pre-inauguration serenade in liquid leggings, Aretha Franklin’s hat, and the “What Will Michelle Wear?” frenzy that had designers and aspirants in a sketching frenzy for the First Lady‘s attention, the January Inauguration was the hottest fashion show of the year and fashion week hadn’t even happened yet.
FEBRUARY: Project Runway Fashion Show Happens Without Project Runway Show
Embargoed by litigation, the Project Runway Season 6 fashion show finale went on, but the contestants could not introduce their collections at Bryant Park as has been the tradition. (We’re so glad it came back!)
MARCH: Kanye’s GF Amber Rose Becomes a Minor Obsession in the Fashion Blogosphere
During Fashion Week, where Kanye was Amber Rose was — rocking her signature blond baldie, bootie-sculpting bottoms, and diva-sized shades. Blogs (like The Cut & this one!) took notice.
APRIL: Lady Gaga Becomes an ‘Idol’

Singer Lady Gaga was “Poker Face”-ing everywhere from American Idol to the top of the charts wearing platinum hair, masks, and Xanadu-reminiscent bodysuits. WWD remembered profiling her before the makeover.
MAY: On Gossip Girl, Blair Heads to College Leaving Little J to be Queen B

JULY: Rihanna Shaves Half Her Head


But before Rihanna did it, Bluefly’s in-house stylist, Tanesha (left) was rocking the half-shaved Pat Benatar crop — and showing off her really cute earrings in the process.
AUGUST: Anna Wintour Stars in The September Issue
The editor-in-chief’s immense influence on fashion was the star of RJ Cutler’s documentary which also highlighted the creative genius of stylist Grace Coddington (pictured left).
SEPTEMBER: Taylor Swift & Beyonce Share a VMA Moment in Red Dresses

After Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech for “Best Female” video arguing that Beyonce’s also nominated “Single Ladies” clip should have won, Beyonce invited Swift to finish her speech when it was her turn to accept the “Best Video of the Year” MTV moon man. Both women happened to be wearing red dresses.
OCTOBER: Bluefly & StyleList Open Voting for America’s Most Stylish Blogger

Though she didn’t win the first challenge, America ultimately voted Pensacola blogger Trang Huyen most stylish.
NOVEMBER: 13 Year Old Blogger Tavi Gevinson is Guest of Honor at Comme Des Garçons’ Holiday Party
A few additional fashion moments in Tavi’s year: 1) She was Front Row at all the major Fashion Week shows; 2) She “define[d] Rodarte for Target” ; 3) She was officially one of the pundits polled about Lady Gaga’s style.
She might have to change her blog’s name from “Style Rookie” to “Don’t Be Jealous.”
DECEMBER: Jersey Shore “Fashionistas”???

Without warning, the “Situation” is this: we can’t go anywhere without hearing about the latest episode of MTV’s new reality show Jersey Shore. Will the show’s cultural moment translate into trends and eponymous clothing lines? We vote: hell to the naw.
