1. LADYLIKE LEATHERS

The return of ’80s fashion has meant the return of leather. For those of us who don’t want to look like a member of a biker gang, Celine spring 2010 cut black, and woody brown leathers into chic little dresses, sharp skirts, and t-shirts. LOVE.

2. SHEER KNITS

Tissue-thin knits started trending this spring, and next spring we are fully on board as they are perfect for wearing over the plethora of warm-weather prints even as they protect from air conditioner and evening chills. This one’s by Louis Vuitton.

3. PRINTED PANTYHOSE

At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld paired his chic suits and whimsical frocks with hose featuring cool garter and espadrille lace prints. A classier take on the printed tight trend for the ladies-who-lunch set.

4. BIG FAT GIRLY FRILLS
From Valentino to Giambattista Valli to Commuun to Stella McCartney (pictured above on model Natalia Vodianova), over-the-top ruffles and tiers were all over the spring ’10 Paris runways. We can’t wait to pair a flouncy blouse/ruffled mini dress with a cropped leather tuxedo jacket, fedora, and ankle booties next spring.

5. DRESSED-DOWN EVENING WEAR

One of the major unifying themes of the spring 2010 collections has been a defiance of the precious, prissy girly-girl. Where there are ruffles and lace, there are leathers and studs. John Galliano carried that idea forward by presenting his line of ultra femme separates — sheer little dresses, swaying skirts — with floppy hats and oversized boyfriend jackets and vests. Love this look because it erases the barriers of what to wear for day and night. Suddenly everything can be worn anytime as long as you wear day and night together.
