I think I’m slowly getting over my fear of fall’s accessory trend. On the cover of Teen Vogue‘s September Issue, and in its pages, Taylor Momsen a.k.a. Gossip Girl‘s Little J is dripping in braided bracelets, crystal and studded cuffs, silver bangles, and vintage bling. LOVE the way the stylist used the ’80s accessories to “edge-ify” a classic Burberry trenchcoat for the cover, a plain white tee and khakis in one shot and go for full-on disco ball chic in another.
Momsen tells the mag of her rockstar look: “I’m pretty, but I’m not, like, a ‘pretty girl.’ So I pulled up a bunch of photos of Joan Jett and said, ‘Do that to my hair.’ There was a distinct change in my wardrobe, too, and I know people were a little, um, taken aback. But it wasn’t me that changed — it was just that I decided to start being myself. Now I do my own makeup, my own hair, and dress myself, and it feels better.”
I have to say the Joan Jett shag and streaky black eyes feel a little forced, but when I was 16 no one could tell me anything about my look, so, I can’t hate.
