Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2009 collection is a play date in the wardrobe closet of every iconic ’80s big & little screen moment. From Pretty in Pink’s “Andie” and her scatterbrained sartorial sister/mentor, “Iona” to Dynasty’s Sammy Jo and Dallas’ “Pam,” pointed and elevated shoulders, exposed zippers, primary colors piped in black, metallics, printed tights, jagged-hemmed flare minis over opaque tights, even ’80s prom dresses were represented. A little scary for those of us content to leave the ’80s resurgence to ankle booties, studded cuffs and layered necklaces. But look again, pull apart each outfit, and you’ll see the separates will totally wake up the palette of charcoals, chocolates and blacks that dominate your fall/winter wardrobe. The printed tights will add trend relevance to your basic LBD. The cropped jackets buck the expected motorcycle jacket cliche in bold colors, as do the capes. And the tops will look amazing with jeans and heels. You in?
