The economy is doing strange things to fashion. While luxury apparel designers like Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier were forced to scale back and host presentations instead of pricey Bryant Park productions this Fashion Week, and indie designers like Abaete and Yigal Azrouel have focused on updated basics that are more likely to sell to retailers, Charlotte Ronson — who recently inked a deal to do a diffusion line for JC Penney called I Heart Ronson — went for bold, ballsy prints, and stark silhouettes with niche appeal. The grungy plaid dress and cropped sheepskin coat she showed are not my thing, but the black one-shoulder mini pictured above is pretty badass. I could totally see it with a killer pair of ankle boots.
