For Calvin Klein menswear designer, Italo Zucchelli, Fall 2009 will be all about color. Grey on grey, grey on black, black on black, head-to-toe ink blue and so forth with a few pops of white shirt to satiate the traditionalist. To that end, the fits are body-conscious, but not super-skinny. The inseams just hit the shoe, but not quite flood pants a la Thom Browne. The suit jackets, 2- and 1-button.
In terms of the color, it seems the trick is to layer slightly different shades of the same color create a sort of ombre effect e.g. the suit might be grey, but the tie, silver, the shirt, smoke. Casual looks were also monochromatic with fitted crewneck sweaters paired with sports coats. The effect is very sophisticated, cosmopolitan and even a lil’ pampered-looking. This is the collection for the man who cares about every detail, like Kanye West, who was front and center, as was Gossip Girl’s Nate (Chace Crawford), and Jared Leto.
