Celebs Wear Their Support for Obama at BET Awards

blue_flypaper_blog_BETawards.jpg
When I saw this photo of actress Kim Whitley (actually at first I thought it was Jackee) showing her Obama pride at yesterday’s BET awards, I was heartened to see the entertainment crowd getting vocal about politics; and then I reconsidered. There is such a thing as just plain tacky and the big block letters, ill fit and just plain wrong shade of purple distract from Whitley’s good intentions. There’s a right way to wear a message, whether a serious one or just for fun, like on this sunny yellow short-sleeved T-shirt. It’s wry, stylish, and subtle. And if there’s anything that we need more of into today’s in-your-face culture, it’s a tad more subtlety with our style, no?

Ungaro’s Esteban Cortazar for MAC

Esteban_ Cortazar_blueflys_blog_flypaper_1.jpgMAC is teaming up with Ungaro’s Esteban Cortazar. The Ungaro colors, set to debut this fall, will feature a “softer palette of delicate shades of pinks, blues and lilacs” said MAC make-up artist Sharon Dowsett:
“It’s a colorful collection but very transparent so you don’t have to worry about overdoing it.”
I have to say this will be a 180 degree turn away from their Heatherette collection, though personally I like my make-up theme to revolve around “too much” to match my over-the-top

Best Dressed Blogger: Claire Sumner of The Fashion Bomb

blueflys_blog_flypaper_best_dressed_Blogger_claire_Sumner.JPGClaire was caught here rocking a great ’50s style black dress, I absolutely adore the fall of the cinched waist and the bead detailing. When she’s not interviewing some of the most elite brown talent in the fashion and beauty industry, she’s hobnobbing it up with them at some of the flyest events in the city. You can check her out daily at The Fashion Bomb.

Christian is Coming!

Curbside-Catwalk-FlyPaper 008.jpg Our favorite little diva stopped by the office this week to show us the samples for his exclusive collection for Bluefly, and we just can’t wait to reveal the goods! I’m already pining for his skinny pant with exposed zipper- hot off the runway from his Project Runway collection. The jackets, tops and dresses all feature Christian’s signature pleating detail and puffed sleeves – so glam and sleek, but easily understandable. I’ve been avoiding all of those dark looking transition collections in the stores right now, but Christian suddenly has me ready to fall forward!
Look out for a mid-July launch… As always, I’ll keep you posted on the details!

Double Vision: Gucci’s Frida Giannini & Leelee Sobieski

Frida_Giannini_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper2.jpgLeelee_Sobieski_Bluefly_blog_FlyPaper.jpgDoesn’t actress Leelee Sobieski (right) look like a younger version of Gucci‘s creative director, Frida Giannini? Check out Gucci’s Spring ’09 menswear pics, and peep the designer in image #45, isn’t the resemblance striking? It made me wonder where Leelee has been. According to Metro, Leelee took a break from acting to deal with her parents’ separation and attend Brown University for a bit before jumping back into indy roles. The Search: A Simple, but Sexy Jersey Dress

yellow_floor_length_jersey_dress_blueflys_blog_flypaper.jpgblack_strapless_jersey_stretch_dress_blueflys_blog_flypaper.jpgFloor length or thigh-high? Bold yellow or elegant black? Strapless or t-strap? When it comes to finding a simple, but sexy jersey dress, the choices are endless! Since I’m a true Styleaholic, I’d have to go with both the yellow Romeo & Juliet Couture floor length dress for easy Sunday brunches and the black stretch strapless dress by Fashionista for frivolous nights out.
