Mercury Rising

Freddie.jpg
Freddie Mercury was second only to David Bowie as glam rock’s most out-there personality, and now his short, but vibrant life will soon be getting the biopic treatment. Both Johnny Depp and Sasha Baron Cohen have been in talks to star in Robert DeNiro’s film about the Queen frontman, who passed away at 45 in 1991 from an AIDS-related illness. Mercury is widely considered one of the greatest performers in British rock history and his stage presence would have been nothing without his flashy, often tacky, but never safe, wardobe. Depp has proven his fearless aptitude for playing oddballs. But like Mercury, Cohen is a Brit – and anyone brave enough to wear that green swimsuit from Borat deserves a shot at immortalizing England’s beloved rock icon.
