Designer Modi Soondarotok has set up shop in Portland and I couldn’t be happier. The Parsons graduate and Donna Karan and Armani veteran makes clothes under her new label IDOM (pronounced “item”) that are hip, elegant and even healthful. “I size my clothes ‘petite,’ ‘moderate,’ ‘curvy’ and ‘extra curvy,’” Soondarotok told me. “There is such an unhealthy mentality here about fitting into that certain size. I make clothes that fit women and make them feel pretty. A lot of designers don’t want to deal with curves; I try to enhance them.” On behalf of all ladies lacking the bodies of 12-year-old boys, we thank you, Modi.
